A good critique should bring forth emotion in you, just like your story. You want the readers to feel something not asking you what but some type of emotion should be engaged. Keep that in mind. The person doing the critique has one objective to help you become a better writer.

When you get a critique back do not fear the red it is your friend.

If your work comes back with very little red and it is the first time it has been submitted for a critique don?t use that person again. They are either being too kind or didn?t like it and don?t know how to say that or they?re indifferent. None of that will help you become a better writer. The worse person to ask to do a critique is your best friend unless she/he is also an author or an English teacher. Use them as beta readers instead.

LaVerne, dont cut and paste multi paragraphs. When the sentence or paragraph ends, just cut that portion.. It will work. Also, use a font the site uses.

Thanks I'm getting it. Hey I'm the test pilot here. hahahahah

The first time I do a critique I write in red letters that YOU ARE THE MASTER/MISTRESS OF THIS UNIVERSE. My comments and suggestions are just that MINE, they are my thoughts my impressions. Take what you can use, ignore the rest. I certainly do.

First mark these links. This teaches you about track changes you will come to both love and hate this but it is what most editors use. So might as well learn how to use it now. When you submit critiques here on RPW it will be used. Unfortunately I won?t be able to show you the feature in this forum, but learn it. It?s pretty easy.

Bowing my head and smiling... "Hello Lady Isis. Thank you again for offering us something like this." Nudges Winn and winks.. "Want to dance later?" Rushes up to LaVerne and shows her notebook and sharpened pencil. "Hi LaVerne!"

Okay that works sorry I can't cut and paste on here.

For those who don't know me I'm a multi-published author with several publishers. I have been involved with 3 critique groups and co-managed 2. I have also trained the admins on RPW on how to do a critique.

If you participate in Thursday's workshop, is it important to be at Saturday's? I won't be able to make the Saturday.

No Winn. You'll be able to come here and read about Saturday's so no worries. See you later.
